How will these tests help?

To the patient: We will be conducting a series of tests to understand why you have a distended abdomen. The tests that we will be conducting are the Complete Blood Count (CBC), Liver Function Tests (LFTs), Kidney Function Tests (KFTs), Urinalysis, Amylase and Lipase Tests, C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Uric Acid Test, Electrolyte Tests, Thyroid Function Tests (TFTs), and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR)

These tests will help us in determining the cause of your bloated tummy. We can group the tests into two groups based on their diagnostic value

The first group will include the Complete Blood Count (CBC), Liver Function Tests (LFTs), Kidney Function Tests (KFTs), Urinalysis, and Electrolyte Tests. These tests will help us determine if there is an infection or an underlying medical condition that is causing your abdominal bloating

The second group of tests includes the Amylase and Lipase Tests, C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Uric Acid Test, Thyroid Function Tests (TFTs), and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR). These tests will help us determine if there is inflammation, an infection or a hormonal imbalance in your body that is causing your enlarged stomach.
