Pregnancy GTT 1 hour is a test to screen for gestational diabetes. It involves drinking a sugary solution and then having a blood test an hour later to measure blood glucose levels. Who should do this test?

Women with a history of gestational diabetes: Women who have had gestational diabetes during a previous pregnancy are at an increased risk of developing it again during subsequent pregnancies. Therefore, they should undergo a 1-hour glucose tolerance test during early pregnancy.

Women with a family history of diabetes: Women who have a family history of diabetes, especially a first-degree relative, are at an increased risk of developing gestational diabetes. Therefore, they should undergo a 1-hour glucose tolerance test during early pregnancy.

Women who are at high risk of developing gestational diabetes: Women who are overweight, have a history of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), or have had a large baby in a previous pregnancy are at an increased risk of developing gestational diabetes. Therefore, they should undergo a 1-hour glucose tolerance test during early pregnancy.

What to do if the test is abnormal?

Consult with your healthcare provider: If the result of your Pregnancy GTT 1 hour test is abnormal, the first thing you should do is consult with your healthcare provider. They will be able to interpret the results and advise you on the next steps.

Follow-up testing: Depending on the severity of the abnormality, your healthcare provider may recommend additional testing such as a 3-hour glucose tolerance test or a HbA1c test to confirm the diagnosis and determine the course of treatment.
