How will these tests help?

The group of tests ordered for the patient suffering from dry eyes are meant to help understand why the patient is having dry eye symptoms. These tests can be divided into two different groups based on similarity of diagnostic value

The first group of tests includes Schirmers Test, Osmolarity Test, Tear Film Break-Up Time Test, Noninvasive Tear Film Break-Up Time Test, and Fluorescein Break-Up Time Test. These tests measure the quality of the tear film, which is the layer of moisture that coats the eye and keeps it lubricated

By measuring the quality of the tear film, the doctor can determine whether the patient is producing enough tears to keep the eyes lubricated. The second group of tests includes Inflammatory Marker Test, Lissamine Green Test, Corneal and Conjunctival Staining Test, Culture Test, and Lipid Layer Thickness Test

These tests measure inflammation and any damage to the cornea, which is the outermost layer of the eye. By measuring inflammation and any damage to the cornea, the doctor can determine whether the dry eye symptoms are a result of an underlying medical condition

These tests will help the doctor understand why the patient is experiencing dry eye symptoms, such as dryness, irritation, redness, and blurred vision.
