How will these tests help?

The group of tests will help us understand the cause of your seizures. These tests can be divided into two categories: 1

Tests that measure brain activity: Electroencephalogram (EEG) and Antiepileptic drug levels. The EEG records electrical activity in the brain and can help detect abnormal patterns that may be causing the seizures

The Antiepileptic drug levels test will help us determine if the medications you are taking are at the appropriate levels and whether they are having the desired effect. 2

Tests that measure other bodily functions: Lumbar puncture (LP), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Blood chemistry panel, Complete blood count (CBC), Thyroid function tests, Antibody tests (e.g. anti-NMDA receptor antibody test), Vitamin B12 level, and Urine drug screen

The LP and MRI can help us determine if there is any physical damage to the brain that might be causing the seizures. The other tests in this group measure your bodys overall health, such as your blood chemistry, complete blood count, thyroid function, and vitamin levels

These tests can help us identify any other underlying health conditions that may be causing the seizures.
